Ohio's fertilizer licence now costs $50 — and the clock runs December to November

Ohio moved its licence fee to $50 on 1 October 2025. The bigger trap is the reporting year: it runs November to October, so the report and the renewal never fall in the same month as most other states.

What changed

Ohio's fertilizer licence fee is $50, in force since 1 October 2025. Specialty product registration is a separate $50 per product per year, on a licence year that runs December to November.

The part people miss

Ohio's tonnage report is annual, covering a period that runs November to October, and it is due by 30 November. That is a different year from Wisconsin's July-to-June, from Florida's calendar quarters and from Michigan's January deadline. If you keep one spreadsheet per state you will eventually file Ohio's numbers for the wrong twelve months.

What it costs if you are late

The penalty is $50 or 10%, whichever applies, and a late licence carries its own $25. Small money on its own; the reason to care is that a lapsed licence stops distribution.

One thing in Ohio's favour

Its portal, Ohio AgEnterprise, is fully digital, which is more than can be said for Texas or Michigan. And packages of 10 lb or less are exempt from the $0.25 per ton inspection fee — the opposite of how Texas, Illinois, Georgia and North Carolina treat small packs.
